MaineOne has announced the opening of its second facility in Lagos, Nigeria. The West African data center firm recently acquired by Equinix opened the Lekki II data center earlier in the week. MDXi, a subsidiary of MainOne, first announced it was developing the data center in October last year. At the time, it said it would be working with an aggressive timeline. According to the company, the data center campus will reach 10MW upon full build-out.

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, MainOne, and Equinix executives attended the facility's opening ceremony. The CEO of MainOne Funke Opeke was in attendance and talked about the development. She said Equinix had identified Lagos to have immense potential to be Africa's digital infrastructure hub. She also noted that the company has plans to expand the Lekki campus to meet the global requirements of hyperscalers.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said: "We can see that Equinix is now poised not only to be the biggest digital infrastructure player in Nigeria but in Africa, and we welcome Equinix to the heartbeat of the country, the Centre of Excellence, the largest economy in Africa and the technology transformation hub of Africa."
