Element Critical has started its first expansion project on the Houston One data center it acquired earlier in the year. The US colo provider acquired the facility for an undisclosed fee from Skybox Datacenters in March. The first phase of the expansion will see Element Critical extend the building’s core and shell by 33,000 square feet. It will also have two new 5MW dedicated data halls. The expansion is scheduled to be completed in Q2of 2022. Upon completion, the facility’s total capacity will be 32MW.

CEO of Element Critical, Ken Parent, said: “Businesses have experienced a seismic shift toward digital advancement and require the always-on availability and proven operational expertise that our purpose-built Houston facility provides.” Element Critical broke ground on the expansion project on September 22. Executive Construction was selected as the general contractor.
