In Sweden, EcoDataCenter has announced expansion plans. The Nordic data center firm has outlined its intentions to develop a new 150MW campus, located in Östersund, Sweden. The facility, known as EcoDataCenter 2, will offer 20 MW in its first phase, which is set to be completed in 2026; this first phase will also see the campus span 32 acres.
According to reports, the campus is seeing an injection of SEK 18 billion invested and is pegged to be one of the biggest data centers in Sweden.
Circular principles will be embedded into the design from the beginning, and in line with this, it is partnering with Wa3rm, which will also produce food on the site, using heat from the data center to power production.
Speaking about the development, Dan Andersson, CEO of EcoDataCenter, said that the company is constructing a “new growth platform” for its clients that enables EcoDataCenter to “take the next step” in sustainable data center design. “At EcoDataCenter 2 we will make a future-proof facility both in terms of sustainability but also from a technical perspective being able to handle very high densities,” said Andersson.
“Together with EcoDataCenter we are designing and building a circular concept from the very start, not adding it on afterwards, which is unique,” said Jaques Ejlerskov, CEO at Wa3rm.
The development is set to bring between 800 and 1,000 new jobs to the area.
