DataVita Files Plans For Third Data Center At North Lanarkshire Campus, Scotland

Scottish data center operator DataVita has submitted plans for a new building at its Chapelhall campus in North Lanarkshire. DataVita said it has revised its plans for the data center, known as DV4, following four public consultation events held prior to the application being submitted. It already operates a data center, DV1, on the site, and has another, DV3, under construction. DV2 is located elsewhere, in Glasgow.

Danny Quinn, managing director of DataVita, said: "We have seen a lot of data center speculation in Scotland recently, and the vast majority of it will never be built. DataVita has been operating in Scotland for more than ten years, and we already underpin a lot of the critical services used day in, day out across Scotland. We built DV1 at Chapelhall, we are building DV3, and we run them ourselves with a Scottish team. DV4 is the next stage of that campus.”

Following public consultation, DataVita reduced the planned building height from 30m to 26m and moved plant equipment away from nearby homes. It will also plant around 1,000m of native hedgerow, twice the length of vegetation removed for the project. The data center will use closed-loop cooling, 100% renewable energy, and target a PUE of 1.25. DataVita also plans to reuse surplus heat, with discussions underway with the nearby Monklands Replacement Hospital and BioCity campus. The company is also studying a community garden and greenhouse that could be heated using waste heat from the facility.

In January 2025, DataVita applied to expand its existing Fortis facility, followed by plans for the new DV3 data center in November. The company also operates DV2 in central Glasgow, offering 130 racks across 1,000 sqm (10,765 sq ft). The Chapelhall campus is part of the UK government’s North Lanarkshire AI Growth Zone, which provides incentives for new data center development. CoreWeave has also announced plans to deploy Nvidia GPUs at DataVita facilities.
