A large data center is rumored to be planned for Hofheim, Hesse, following the sale of a 10-hectare (24-acre) site to an undisclosed buyer.
Local media reported that Amazon bought the land, but Hofheim authorities denied this, while Amazon declined to comment. The town’s mayor confirmed the sale but did not identify the buyer. More details are expected in September.
Mayor Schultze said more details are expected in September, when he will meet with the Krieger Group and the site’s new owner. The 10-hectare In der Lach site sits near the A66 motorway and is currently farmland. The Krieger Group received approval in 2025 to develop it as an industrial park. The site has a 16m (52ft) building height limit, though it remains unclear whether the new owner must follow the existing development plan.
Hesse is one of Germany’s largest data center markets, with 173 facilities, most concentrated around Frankfurt. Recent projects include a 10.6-hectare (26-acre) AWS site in Maintal, part of the company’s €8.14bn ($9.44bn) investment in its Frankfurt region. AWS expects the project to create around 100 permanent jobs.
