Bitdeer Acquires 200 Acres In Milam County, Texas, For AI And HPC Expansion

Bitdeer has acquired a 200-acre site in Milam County, Texas, for $100 million to support its AI and HPC infrastructure expansion. The land, formerly part of an Alcoa aluminum smelting plant, is adjacent to Bitdeer’s existing Rockdale data center. The company said the combined sites provide 563MW of interconnected grid capacity, with potential to expand to 742MW. The acquisition gives Bitdeer greater control over the sites and supports future planning, financing, and development of AI and HPC infrastructure.

“The company believes its Rockdale location is well positioned to receive further power allocations over the coming years, given its existing large-load interconnection and the established transmission and substation infrastructure serving the location.”

Owning this land gives us greater long-term certainty over our development plans, eliminates the renewal risk associated with a lease, and provides flexibility to maintain our existing Bitcoin mining operations while we develop the newly acquired property.”

Bitdeer operates six sites and manages 175,000 Bitcoin mining machines, while converting facilities in Washington, Tennessee, and Norway for AI and HPC use. Its global power pipeline totals around 3GW. The former Alcoa site spans 33,000 acres, with parts sold to third parties including SoftBank. Texas has paused new data center developments while reviewing pending grid interconnection requests.
