Big Data Exchange (BDx) has announced that it has formed a data center venture with some companies in Indonesia. The company entered into an agreement with IT firm Lintasarta, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, and telecommunication company Starone Mitra Telekomunikasi (SMT). The companies are joining hands to form a data center and cloud-focused operation in the Asian country.
This will be BDx’s first involvement in Indonesia. The agreement is also worth $300 million. According to the companies coming together, the joint venture was formed to address Indonesia’s increased need for world-class data center facilities. It is currently unclear if the agreement was made to develop new data centers or due to BDx acquiring Ooredoo’s data center business.
The CEO of BDx, Braham Singh, said the agreement sees BDx adding a significant APAC market to its data center portfolio. He added that the high increase in cloud services and connectivity in Indonesia is pivotal to expanding into the country through the JV.
