France: Battery System Suspected to be Cause of Fire at Maxnod Data Center in France

A massive fire at a Maxnod-run data center forced the closure of the French facility and seriously damaged the infrastructure. No casualties have been reported; however, it is believed that one firefighter suffered just minor injuries. According to the local government Ain, the Saint-Trivier-sur-Moignans fire needed substantial resources, mobilizing roughly 81 firemen and 49 vehicles. Maxnod's website is now down; their only facility is an 800-square-meter data center. Reporters tried to contact the business for a statement but have been unable. Several interruptions have been recorded, especially with local FTTH users, due to the data center being down and the fiber connections being damaged.

The sector is still plagued by data center fires, resulting in significant property loss and even human life. When OVHcloud's data center in Strasbourg caught fire, it was the most significant occurrence, which also occurred in France. Once it emerged that OVH had backup servers in the same data center and unintentionally erased some of the disks, it was able to recover from the debris. However, the company is still coping with the effects of the disaster.
A lithium-ion battery fire in South Korea prompted a KakaoTalk outage that wreaked havoc across the nation, and a power room issue led to a small fire at an Equinix data center. Two people perished in a fire at the Cyber 1 data center in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 2021. The incident's cause was never disclosed.
