According to reports from Swedish news outlets, Bahnhof, a company that operates data centers, has plans to construct a nuclear reactor in order to power a new data center. Plans are being drafted for a small modular reactor (SMR) to be constructed on an industrial site in the Hjorthagen neighborhood of Stockholm. This reactor would provide electrical energy for a new data facility, as well as for 30,000 homes, along with heat for offices and homes. The article provides very few specifics about the project, which appears to have been prompted by a report of 20 large Swedish companies.

The survey discovered that Bahnhof was one of 3 major electricity consumers who would be willing to invest their funds in a new nuclear plant that'd supply their needs in the future. The other organizations that support nuclear energy include the gas business Linde and the mining company Boliden. Bahnhof operates seven data centers in Swedish cities and is considering using nuclear power at a facility under development in Hjorthagen. The company is well-known in the data center industry for its subterranean Pionen data center in downtown Stockholm, which is situated in a former government nuclear bunker and features diesel engines salvaged from submarines for backup power.
