Amazon Web Services (AWS) operated a total of 56.839 million square feet (5.28 million sqm) of data center and office space in 2025. According to its 10-K filing, the company owned approximately 28.37 million sq ft (2.64 million sqm) and leased a further 28.469 million sq ft (2.64 million sqm).
The combined total represents a 16% increase over 2024. That year itself saw a 28% rise over 2023, which followed a 14% increase over 2022, and a 28% jump from 2021. Notably, 2021 marked the largest annual percentage increase since AWS began reporting, with a 44% surge over 2020’s footprint of 18.1 million sq ft.
The filing does not break down how much of the 56.8 million sq ft is dedicated to data center white space, as opposed to other supporting areas such as offices, sales space, and ancillary infrastructure. It also excludes corporate facilities and headquarters. AWS currently operates 123 Availability Zones across 39 geographic regions, with plans to add seven more Availability Zones and launch two additional regions in Saudi Arabia and Chile. The company also runs 108 Edge network locations worldwide.
