AVK Launches Funding Arm For Data Center Onsite Power Solutions

Data center on-site power developer AVK has launched AVK Capital, a new entity that will fund, own, and operate on-site power infrastructure for customers. The unit is backed by AVK’s recent investment from Partners Group, which acquired a majority stake and plans to invest more than $1 billion in equity, supported by debt financing. AVK said the model will allow data center developers to secure powered sites without carrying the full cost of power infrastructure on their own balance sheets.

Under the new model, AVK will design the most suitable power solution for each site, including microgrids, fuel cells, renewable energy, backup systems, and its proprietary AVK PowerPod. AVK Capital will finance and own the infrastructure, while developers will purchase the power through long-term Power Purchase Agreements.

Ben Pritchard, CEO, AVK, said: “Access to power is the single biggest constraint on data center development in Europe, and the cost of solving it is the second. AVK Capital takes both off the table. We already design, build, operate, and maintain on-site power at commercial scale, and being able to fund and own it as well means a developer can contract for power in the same way they contract for any other service. That is what speed to power means in practice, and it is what the market has been asking for. No other business can bring the funding, the technology, and the delivery together under one roof the way AVK can.”

AVK launched its PowerPod system in April, targeting data centers with a solution that combines engines, switchgear, UPS, controls, and enclosures. It can operate both on-grid and off-grid, providing flexible power options. The company has a 2GW project pipeline and recently launched a 110MW natural gas-powered microgrid at a PureDC data center in Dublin, Ireland. The microgrid consists of three interconnected energy centers, with the first two expected to be operational by the end of 2026 and the third to follow later.
