Arcem Acquires Land in Joroinen, Finland for 500MW Data Center Campus

Arcem has acquired land in eastern Finland for a planned data center development, following an agreement with the municipality of Joroinen. Under the deal, the first phase of the project is expected to deliver 60MW of capacity by 2027, with expansion potential reaching 100MW before 2029. In the long term, the site could scale up to 500MW.

The agreement was finalized last week after a unanimous decision by the Joroinen municipal council. The land is already zoned for data center use, and a building permit for the initial phase could be granted as early as this summer. Reports of Arcem’s interest in developing a facility in Joroinen first emerged last month.Joroinen is a municipality in Finland’s North Savo region, located around 315 km northeast of Helsinki. The data center site lies directly next to Fingrid’s existing 400/110kV transformer station at Huutokoski, providing access to key power infrastructure. Beyond the land acquired from the municipality, Arcem has also secured adjacent plots to support future expansion. Together, the sites cover approximately 800,000 square meters (8.61 million square feet).

“In Joroinen, we have established a clear path to grid connection and construction start through a structured process involving the municipality, the local grid operator and Fingrid. The area is reachable in under three hours by car from Helsinki via a four-lane motorway, has a railway at the site and a local airport nearby. This makes it attractive to a broad range of tenants,” says Anders Bakken Eriksen, CEO of Arcem. “In today’s market, two things matter most – time to market and scale. Our project in Joroinen delivers both. This is one of several projects we are working on in Finland, and it forms part of a broader Nordic platform we have built up over time.”
