Africa Data Centres has announced that it is developing its first data center in Kigali, Rwanda. According to the company, the purpose-built data center will offer 2MW of capacity. ADC also revealed that it would break ground on the data center in Q1 2023. It, however, did not reveal the exact location or size of the data center.
The CEO of Africa Data Centres, Tesh Durvasula, said: "It is an exciting time for Africa Data Centres. Our decision to build a data center in Kigali was an easy one, given Rwanda's robust economic recovery post the Covid-19 pandemic and the Government of Rwanda's focus on digital transformation."
Africa Data Centres currently has or is developing data centers in Lagos, Nigeria; Nairobi, Kenya; Lome, Togo; Accra, Ghana; and Johannesburg, South Africa. ADC announced in 2021 that it planned to invest $500m in developing 10 data centers across Africa. The planned data center in Kigali is one of the facilities the $500m will fund.
