Plans have been submitted to the New South Wales government for a new 70MW data center at 23-25 Waterloo Road. The project involves the demolition of a legacy facility in Macquarie Park to make way for this expanded infrastructure.
Digital Realty is the driving force behind a new AU$700 million (US$482m) data center project in Sydney. Plans filed by Willowtree Planning reveal an eight-story, 23,375 sqm facility will be constructed on the 1.2-hectare site following the demolition of the existing building.
Digital Realty originally acquired the site in 2013 for AU$11.75 million, at which point it was fully leased to Fujitsu. Although Fujitsu still lists the 3,600 sqm, 4.8MW facility on its website as 'North Ryde,' Digital Realty formerly operated it as SYD13. The site's history in the sector dates back to 2000, when it was zoned for data center use by Exodus Corporation; after Exodus collapsed during the dot-com bubble, the site was acquired by Cable and Wireless and subsequently sold to Fujitsu in 2002.
