CyrusOne's commitment was recently recognized by The Environment + Energy Leader Awards program, which awarded the company with the Top Project of the Year Award. The program highlights products and services that provide companies with environmental and energy benefits. CyrusOne secured the accolade for making its Chandler, Arizona, campus its first net positive water data center, and according to reports, the first of such in the world.

The campus was unveiled back in March 2020 and reduces water consumption by using a water-free cooling design, which only utilizes "small amounts" for humidification, facility maintenance and domestic water. The company also restored 40% more water than it used in 2019, using Water Restoration Certificates. This was achieved in partnership with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation and the Arizona Land and Water Trust. It has now opened a second net positive data center in Carrollton.

While both regions are water-stressed, the company's efforts to minimize water usage have positively impacted the surrounding regions. Going forward, the company aims to make all of its facilities in high water-stressed regions net positive.
