Construction is officially underway for HLRS III, a state-of-the-art supercomputing data center at the University of Stuttgart. Representing a total investment of €178.6 million, the 7,000-square-meter facility will serve as a cornerstone of Germany’s technological sovereignty and a key hub within the Gauss Centre for Supercomputing.
Once complete, the site will house two major systems: the Herder flagship supercomputer, expected to reach several hundred petaflops by 2027, and the AI-optimized HammerHAI system. Beyond its raw processing power, the project prioritizes sustainability by integrating rooftop and facade photovoltaics and channeling waste heat directly into the campus heating network.
