Stream: Project Liberty

Year Built: 2026
Lot Size: 400 acres

Stream Data Centers has officially withdrawn its plans for a massive hyperscale campus spanning roughly 400 acres in Marion, South Carolina, which was originally projected as a $6 billion+ investment.

First approved under the code name "Project Liberty" in early 2026, the ambitious master plan was designed to bring high-density digital infrastructure to the area. However, the developer abruptly halted the development in June 2026 due to critical utility timing constraints, as the local power grid could not scale up fast enough to meet Stream's strict timeline. The cancellation also followed mounting local pushback regarding potential environmental impacts on the area's water supply and frustration over the lack of public transparency during the project's initial approval stages.

Stream Data Centers History:

  • In August 2025, Apollo-managed funds agreed to acquire a majority stake in Stream Data Centers from Stream Realty Partners; the parties also committed new capital to Stream’s land fund targeting 650 MW of near-term capacity across campuses in metro Chicago, Atlanta, and Dallas, with closing expected in 2025 subject to conditions.
  • In June 2024, Stream broke ground on its third San Antonio campus on 135 acres, planned for up to five buildings and approximately 200 MW of IT capacity at full build out.
