Sabey Data Centers has officially withdrawn its proposal to develop a campus in Butte, Montana, after losing its intended site to REC Silicon.

Sabey had previously agreed to purchase a 600-acre parcel within the Montana Connections business park, planning to build a facility that would draw an initial 50MW of power by 2027 with scalability up to 250MW or more by 2029. However, REC Silicon exercised its right of first refusal in April 2026 to acquire a portion of the land, halting Sabey's specific plans for that location. Despite the setback, local officials note that Sabey is actively scouting alternative locations across southwest Montana, including Silver Bow and Deer Lodge counties, to establish its regional footprint.

Sabey Data Centers is one of the largest privately owned multi-tenant data center owner/developer/operators in the world. Being privately-owned may mean that ours is never a household name, but to us, it means a complete focus on building value by serving one customer at a time.

Sabey Data Centers grew out of Sabey Corporation’s forty plus year history as a designer, builder and operator for leading innovators of the day: Boeing Electronics’ clean rooms, McCaw Cellular’s first cell phone switches, and Exodus Communications, provider of the world’s first internet colocation services — all were breaking new ground in industries of world-wide importance.
