Sabey Data Centers is planning a significant data center development on a 600-acre parcel of land in Butte, Montana's Montana Connections business park. The land acquisition, estimated at $1.2 million, was made from the Butte-Silver Bow County, though the deadline for the final closing of the sale was extended to February 11, 2026. While the developer has formally announced one facility, multiple reports and company documents suggest Sabey is considering building two separate data centers on the site.

The planned power capacity for the facilities is slated to begin with 50 MW (Megawatts) of power available in 2027, following a non-binding Letter of Intent signed with NorthWestern Energy. This agreement allows for substantial growth, with an option to expand the capacity to 250 MW or more by 2029. NorthWestern Energy will supply the power from its diversified portfolio, which includes significant hydroelectric resources within Montana.

Sabey Data Centers is one of the largest privately owned multi-tenant data center owner/developer/operators in the world. Being privately-owned may mean that ours is never a household name, but to us, it means a complete focus on building value by serving one customer at a time.

Sabey Data Centers grew out of Sabey Corporation’s forty plus year history as a designer, builder and operator for leading innovators of the day: Boeing Electronics’ clean rooms, McCaw Cellular’s first cell phone switches, and Exodus Communications, provider of the world’s first internet colocation services — all were breaking new ground in industries of world-wide importance.
