The Polarnode data center project in Kuopio is a major addition to Finland’s digital infrastructure, located in the Mustakorpi area between Hiltulanlahti and Pellesmäki. The development is planned as a massive campus on a 32-hectare city-owned plot with significant power capacity.

The project will be rolled out in stages, with the first phase delivering a substantial portion of that total capacity. Currently in the planning and permitting stages, zoning is scheduled to begin in spring 2026 with the goal of being construction-ready by 2027. Once operational, the facility will focus on sustainability by utilizing 100% clean energy and exploring waste heat recovery to support the local district heating network.
