The NE Edge data center project is a proposal to build a 1.5 million-square-foot facility at the Millstone nuclear power station in Connecticut. The plan is unique because it would draw power directly from the nuclear plant, providing a reliable and low-carbon energy source.
The project is currently in a state of uncertainty. While NE Edge and the town of Waterford signed a host fee agreement in March 2023 that would pay the town $231 million over 30 years in lieu of property taxes, a critical deadline looms. The agreement includes a clause that requires NE Edge to obtain building permits by March 2026.
The project has faced setbacks, including a denial of a key petition by the Connecticut Siting Council in January 2024, and it continues to face legislative and community opposition over concerns about its potential impact on the state's power grid and environment.
