Meta, operating through its subsidiary Valoa Networks, is advancing plans for a massive data center campus in the municipality of Ii, located in Finland’s Northern Ostrobothnia region. The project centers on a massive 1,160-hectare site in the Northern Ostrobothnia region, with approximately 475 hectares specifically earmarked for server halls near the Herva power station.
Mayor Marjukka Manninen has highlighted the area's abundant clean energy production as a primary draw for the tech giant, aligning with Meta's global goal to match its energy use with 100% renewable sources. While the municipality is actively moving forward with zoning and environmental impact assessments, a final investment decision from Meta is still pending, and the permitting process is not expected to conclude until 2027.
