The Josiah 1 data center, located in Building 4A of the historic Spode Works factory in Stoke-on-Trent, is a specialized High-Performance Computing (HPC) facility scheduled to launch its initial phase in Q3 2026. Operated by Greenweaver AI in partnership with developer Spode Works Regeneration Ltd, the project utilizes direct-to-chip liquid cooling provided by technical partner Lenovo to support high-density AI workloads, including Nvidia H100 and RTX 4090 clusters.
A critical technical feature of the site is its integration with the city’s District Energy Network; by capturing waste heat from the computing hardware, the facility will supply decarbonized thermal energy to heat the surrounding 10-acre regeneration site, which includes creative-tech studios and residential units. Supported by £2.06 million in Levelling Up funding, Josiah 1 serves as a regional anchor for the UK’s sovereign AI infrastructure, transforming a Grade II listed pottery works into a functional node for the "createch" economy while maintaining a closed-loop, low-carbon operational profile.
