Go to PodcastThe Lusitanus project is a massive €2.8 billion ($3.24bn) artificial intelligence-focused data center campus planned for the ExpacioMérida industrial park in Extremadura, Spain. Developed by Spanish renewables firm Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), a subsidiary of Jameel Energy, the project blends digital infrastructure with clean energy.
Backed by a 240,000-square-meter land reservation, the development allocates €2.1 billion to state-of-the-art data infrastructure and €700 million to dedicated renewable energy generation and battery storage, allowing the entire campus to be powered by more than 80% self-generated green energy.
Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) is a global leader in comprehensive renewable energy solutions. Over the past 15 years, the company has evolved from a pure utility-scale solar PV developer into an integrated renewable energy Independent Power Producer (IPP). Through its specialized team, FRV-X, the company drives infrastructure investment and innovation, developing breakthrough technologies and new business models across the emerging energy value chain.
FRV is owned by Jameel Energy, part of the Saudi investment firm Abdul Latif Jameel. Abdul Latif Jameel acquired FRV in 2015.
