Firmus is developing a large-scale "AI Factory" called Project Southgate in St Leonards, spanning five hectares of land. This campus will include two server halls, an office building, and all the necessary supporting infrastructure. A key feature of the project is its reliance on renewable energy.
Firmus is working on this development in collaboration with the Tasmanian Government. The first stage is scheduled to be operational by 2026. This initial phase, Stage 1a, will deliver a substantial portion of the AI infrastructure and is expected to see an investment of AU2.1billion(US1.37bn). Stage 1b will follow, significantly expanding the infrastructure's size and capability, making it over twice as large as Stage 1a. A further 300MW second stage is planned to follow, subject to final approvals.
