Built entirely of steel in 1959, the Ugchelen broadcasting station is a 142-meter-high tower. It was originally constructed to relay Dutch television signals from IJsselstein (Lopik) to Markelo and Zwolle-Kerspel, facilitating TV reception in the eastern and northern parts of the Netherlands.
In 2007, Cellnex acquired the tower to establish a data center.
