Location

The campus sits about 2 km northwest of Villanueva de Gállego and 16 km north of Zaragoza. It lies in the Polígono de Industrias Tecnológicas de la Información (PITI, the former Parque Industrial Aeronáutico), beside the Villanueva de Gállego ULM aerodrome, with access from the A-1102.

Land

Amazon Data Services Spain holds three adjoining parcels of about 94 ha. The original 12 ha parcel came through the 2020 Aragon PIGA for three AWS data centers. A 13 ha PITI parcel and a 68 ha parcel in the new Sector Ópera came through the 2024 "Expansión Región AWS en Aragón" PIGA, which Aragon approved in stages in 2025 and 2026.

Power

  • Two 132 kV underground circuits of 50 MVA each run from e-distribución's SET Villanueva de Gállego to an on-site 132/20 kV substation. SET Villanueva de Gállego sits beside Red Eléctrica's 220 kV Villanueva de Gállego node, about 6 km south.
  • A 131 MVA 132 kV link to SET Villanueva Oeste reinforces the local grid.
  • A 220 kV double circuit through a metering station in Polígono San Miguel is planned for the Sector Ópera parcel.
  • Each building has its own diesel generator yard: 46 gensets on the original parcel, with 45 and 145 permitted on the expansion parcels.

Water and energy

A central water storage and treatment plant, added in a 2024 PIGA amendment, serves the original buildings. The Sector Ópera parcel adds two recycled-water cooling reservoirs topped with solar panels. Amazon matches the campus consumption with renewable energy projects in Aragon.

Milestones

Amazon signed a framework agreement with the Government of Aragón in 2019. The PIGA and environmental permit followed in 2020, and the AWS Europe (Spain) Region launched in 2022. The expansion PIGA came in 2024, and construction approval for the first expansion buildings came in 2026. In 2026 the town council appealed the expansion PIGA over lost construction tax and maintenance costs; work has continued.
