Ashton Old Baths, a Victorian bathhouse in Manchester, has undergone a significant transformation into a council data center, and a tech hub spanning over 10,000 sq ft of office and coworking space.

The historic Grade II-listed building, which first opened in 1870, is now in phase two of redevelopment, which began last year. However, redevelopment first started back in 2016 under Tameside Council.

Speaking to The Oldham Times, Cllr Oliver Ryan, Tameside Council executive member for finance and economic growth, said: “This second phase of work completes what has been an incredible transformation of Ashton Old Baths, fulfilling our ambition of repairing and restoring the original structure and features to return the site to its former glory while also securing its long term future.”

According to DCD, local data center firm Sudlows supplied the 150 sqm (1,600 sq ft) data center data center to the council, while MCAU worked as the architects on the project.

There are 31 data centers in Manchester.
