Vantage Data Centers is expanding into Africa by breaking ground on a new 80MW campus in Johannesburg, South Africa. The campus will be developed in phases, with the first 16MW phase scheduled to be completed in 2022. The new facility is located in Waterfall City in Johannesburg. Also, the campus will have three buildings across 30 acres of land. In addition, there will be 650,000 square feet of data center space at the facility upon full buildout.

The company said it would invest over $1 billion into the site. The president and CEO of Vantage Data Centers, Sureel Choksi, said there’s a high demand from customers across the globe for hyperscale data center facilities. He then added that Vantage is happy to meet this demand by expanding into Africa’s biggest data center market. Choksi also noted that the company’s activities in the last two years had made Vantage one of the fastest-growing hyperscale data center providers globally.
