A Charlotte, North Carolina, data center is available for purchase or lease. Currently, fiber provider Segra operates the data center, but the company will soon withdraw as its contract nears completion. Five 9s Digital is advertising the property for sale or lease. No sale or lease price was disclosed. The 18,070-square-foot, single-story building has 12,000 square feet of data center space and 1.5 megawatts of expandable electricity. There are eight 30-ton Liebert CRAC units on a glycol loop and a trio of 100-ton Liebert dry coolers for heat rejection on the property.
In 2017, EQT acquired Spirit Communications and Lumos Networks and merged them to form Segra, a significant regional fiber provider in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast United States. In May 2020, Segra acquired NorthState for $240 million. In 2021, EQT sold Segra's Commercial Services Business to Cox Communications while retaining Segra's residential and SMB operations. EQT retained Lumos Networks and NorthState and spun them off as separate enterprises.
Five 9s reported that Segra inherited four Charlotte data centers when it acquired Lumos and NorthState, which led to the company's decision to vacate 1612 Cross Beam Drive, a former Lumos center it received as part of its 2017 acquisition of DC74.
