T4 Group has announced that it would house its planned Tier IV facility in New Zealand’s South Island at a hotel in Invercargill. The hotel will also use the data center’s waste heat. T4 first announced plans for the data center in March 2022. The company revealed that it would invest $30 million (NZ$50 million) to develop the data center.

T4 has confirmed that the data center will be developed on land at Ascot Park Hotel in Invercargill. Because of the proximity of the data center to the hotel, the waste heat from the data center will be turned into an asset as the data center will allow the hotel to use the heat to reduce coal usage.
The director of T4 Group, David Simpson, told Otago Times that it is great to be developing the facility in Invercargill. According to him, the company is exploring options to utilize the heat generated at the data center to heat the Ascot Park Hotel. He noted that this move would make both buildings sustainable and efficient.

When the facility was first announced, David Simpson promised it would be the country’s first carbon-neutral data center. He added that it would rely on energy from Southland’s hydro stations, recycle its waste heat, and use natural air for cooling.
