Silicon Ranch has agreed to build a 107-megawatt solar project to power the Facebook data center in Newton County, Ga.
Silicon Ranch, the U.S. solar platform for Shell and one of the largest independent solar power producers in the country, contracted with Walton Electric Membership Corporation to build the solar facility in Denton, Ga.
Walton EMC has an agreement to supply 100% renewable energy for Facebook’s data center.
On behalf of Facebook and Walton EMC, Silicon Ranch will fund, construct, own, operate and maintain the 107-megawatt solar facility, called Snipesville II, in Denton, an unincorporated community in Jeff Davis County.
Snipesville II will come online in 2021, the company said in an announcement.
Silicon Ranch’s first project serving Facebook and Walton EMC is currently under construction and will begin generating power before the end of 2019, according to the announcement.

The separate 102.5-MW project in Early County forms part of the 200MW solar commitment, according to PV-Tech.org. That project uses modules from Hanwha Q CELLS’ manufacturing facility in the state, it said.
Snipesville II will have around 350,000 modules attached to single-axis trackers that allow the modules to track the sun from east to west.
Construction of Snipesville II is expected to support more than 500 jobs, the majority local labor and subcontractors, Walton EMC said in an announcement.
