Serverfarm has announced that it has expanded its power capacity at its LON1 data center, by adding an additional 8MW of capacity, almost doubling its power capacity.

According to Arun Shenoy, CMO at Serverfarm, 3MW of new power capacity will be available in the next four months, “with more to come in 2023.” Likewise, Shenoy outlined the company is “avoiding” the use of unnecessary concrete, steel or glass” by building additional data center power capacity without the construction of new facilities.

This decision to avoid the use of building materials for this expansion aligns with Serverfarm’s sustainability goals, as a member of the Climate Neutral Data Center Pact, through which it seeks to achieve net-zero in the UK by 2050. Moreover, according to the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction 2021 Global Status Report, building materials and construction contribute 10% of global CO2 emissions.
