In response to the growing and urgent need for data centers to become more sustainable and environmentally friendly, Schneider Electric has revealed its framework for how data center operators can achieve this.
Tony Kang, Business VP for Secure Power at Schneider Electric Philippines, commented that more and more data center operators are expected to achieve more than the minimum when it comes to sustainability compliance. He outlined: “For example, while a goal of carbon neutrality was once a differentiator, Schneider Electric now recognizes the potential to have even greater impact with carbon negative operations.”
Its insights suggest that data-driven consultations are key, and can help to establish an “actionable” strategy to reach sustainability and climate emissions. Moreover, it states that ensuring companies are ‘leveraging data for optimization, analytics and reporting” is vital.
The framework outlines a number of ways to achieve sustainability compliance, and this includes,
- Creating efficient data center designs through utilizing an “architectural approach”
- Using software and digital services to driver operational efficiency and enable remote monitoring
- Buying renewable energy, and,
- Decarbonizing supply chains. So, looking at Scope 3 footprints and using digital performance tracking. Kang described Scope 3 emissions as those which are both “upstream and downstream” of a company’s activities
Commenting on how the data center industry can set the bar for sustainability and how Schneider Electric can help, Kang said: “Data center operators should welcome the government’s push for cleaner and greener operations. Schneider Electric can help leverage this into an opportunity to embrace a greener future and push the boundaries of their sustainability commitments.”
