Rowan Green Data in Morrow County, Oregon, plans to build a data center. Proposals for the Percheron Data Center near Boardman were recommended for approval by the County planning commission at the end of last month. Later this month, the proposal will be presented to the County Board of Commissioners. The company requests to rezone nearly 274 acres nine miles south of I-84 on Tower Road from Exclusive Farm (EFU) to General Industrial (MG) and to adopt a Limited Use Overlay Zone to restrict MG uses to a single data center.
Rowan plans to construct a four-building, 1.125 million square foot data center campus. If all the necessary permits are obtained, construction might start as early as 2024. The property is located approximately 11 miles southwest of Boardman, to the north of the Carty Reservoir and the Carty Generating Station, a 450MW combined-cycle natural gas-fueled electric generating power plant that will include a 50MW solar farm in the near future.
The campus is surrounded by land owned by Portland General Electric and the United States Navy. Previously, it belonged to Threemile Canyon Farms. Rowan has established a site dedicated to the Percheron initiative, stating that Threemile Canyon Farm found the soil unproductive and did not cultivate there.
According to the Percheron website, Rowan currently has no contracted end-users.
