The South Carolina Office of the Governor confirmed that DC firm QTS will establish operations in York Country, marking the company’s entry into the state. This comes after news of a major data center project in York County dubbed ‘Project Cobra’ surfaced in June 2023.

Gov. Henry McMaster celebrated this investment and acknowledged the new campus as an addition to South Carolina’s “already impressive technology industry.” His office also mentioned that the site will “utilize carbon-free power when feasible and leverage technology that uses zero water for cooling its customers’ environments.”

The project’s site on Hands Mill Highway is known to be a greenfield land. However, details about the size and capacity of the project remain unclear as the firm’s website only confirms that the 400-acre site plans to offer “hundreds” of megawatts of power. “Designed to meet rapid, large-scale deployments in the strategic hub of Charlotte, North Carolina, QTS Charlotte will provide significant capacity to support ongoing growth,” the company’s website adds.
