Publix has plans to develop a data center at a former FedEx building in Florida. According to reports, the Supermarket chain is looking to invest $40 million in the building located in Polk County, Florida. However, the details of the project aren’t concrete enough at this time, as Publix claims the project is just an expansion of its corporate headquarters’ IT department. The project will involve the company renovating a 13,200 square meter (142,250 square foot) facility sited in Lakeland.

According to Bill Braswell, the Commissioner of Polk County, Publix is buying the former FedEx building and developing a $40 million data center. He added that the project would lead to the creation of numerous jobs. Publix has filed for numerous incentives with Polk County. It also wants an Economic Development Ad Valorem Tax Exemption.
