The Belgian telecommunications company Proximus is contemplating the sale of its data center unit for approximately €300 million ($329 million). According to Reuters, the company has hired bankers to start working on a sale, which could be used to finance the rollout of 5G and fiber networks. Currently, the division earns approximately €20 million before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization.
The company maintains its data centers in Belgium and data centers for local IT hosting. HCL Technologies announced in 2021 that it would administer the private cloud infrastructure of Proximus.
This year, Proximus and Google partnered to offer cloud services in Belgium and Luxembourg. The telco has a total market value of $2.75bn and is 53 percent owned by the Belgian government. Earlier this month, Proximus took over Indian cloud communication service operator Route Mobile for 59.22 billion rupees ($721m).
