NTT has announced its plan to adopt immersion cooling, after it ran a successful test of LiquidStack's two-phase immersion systems at its Mitaka Data Center East in Japan. According to the company, the IT kit ran stably, and used 97% less cooling energy than a traditional cooling system.

The test resulted in an estimated partial PUE of 1.07, and the company managed to reach its figure of 97% saving on cooling energy by comparing that with a notional average PUE figure of 1.7.

Currently, the company has facilities dotted all over the world, including in Mumbai, London, Oregon, Illinois, and California and it has future facilities planned in Spain, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Looking ahead, the company said it would work toward using such systems for energy-saving data center services across the next year. This is in line with its sustainability goals, which include reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.
