A data center construction is proposed for the northern Ohio region outside Toledo. The Blade reports that preparations are underway to locate a data center on hundreds of acres in Middleton Township, west of Interstate 75 and near the intersection of State Routes 582 and 25. Details regarding the campus, developer, and end-user are currently unknown.
Middleton Township lies in northern Ohio near the Michigan border, roughly south of Toledo in Wood County. According to the Blade, details are still being finalized, but earlier this year, township officials approved an amendment allowing "Data Storage" as an authorized use in industrially zoned areas of the township.
The trustees of the township have approved the conversion of 402 acres of agricultural land to light industrial use following the conversion of 279 acres late last year. Due to a nondisclosure agreement, Brian McMahon, owner of the commercial real estate firm Danberry National Ltd., who reps multiple sellers in the area and has recently listed 235 commercially designated acres for sale just south of Middleton Pike, could not comment.
Jerry Greiner, the district president of Northwestern Water & Sewer, stated that the agency generally thinks the project will have "substantial" water and sewer requirements but does not know the specifics. He added that the primary demand for water will likely be associated with the chilling of servers and the potential fire suppression needs of such a facility.
