NorthC has broken ground on a 4.5MW data center in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The 43,000 square feet (4,000 square meters) facility will be the company’s second data center in Eindhoven. It will also be located next to its existing data center on the Eindhoven High Tech Campus (HTC). The facility will utilize generators that can run on hydrogen or natural gas.
The Dutch data center provider was established in 2019 from the merger of two Dutch data center companies, NLDC and TDCG. NorthC has been expanding into more European markets in recent years. The company recently acquired Germany’s IP Exchange and Netrics in Switzerland. NorthC’s new Eindhoven facility is scheduled to come online in October 2023. It will be the company’s 12th facility in the Netherlands and its 17th in Europe.
This will also be the company’s second hydrogen-powered facility, as it is already developing one in Groningen, with fuel cells as a backup. Both facilities’ generators will use natural gas as a backup until the hydrogen supplies arrive. According to NorthC, its Eindhoven generators will save up to 75 tons of CO2 yearly compared to diesel generators.
