NEXTDC: NextDC receives approval for its 150MW Melbourne data center

The Melbourne City Council has granted NextDC planning approval for its M3 data center. The data center in question has 150MW of capacity, and it is on 100,000 sqm (1,076,400 sq ft) of land. It will also be built to serve hyperscale customers. NextDC sited the M3 facility in West Footscray, which is 10KM to the west of the Central Business District in Melbourne.

Construction has started on Phase one of the facility, which will have 13.5MW of capacity. This phase is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2023. CEO of NextDC said the Company needed to expand the scope of the M3 data center facility due to increased customer demand for hyperscale technology. He also added that the Company anticipates offering its customers different availability zone solutions through its existing M1 and M2 facilities.
