According to a newsletter from Christian Koch’s Foundations, New York Internet (NYI) will be taking over a space in 60 Hudson Street carrier hotel currently occupied by Equinix. Equinix announced in May 2021 that it would be exiting some of its leased data centers in the US. One of those facilities includes the New York’s 60 Hudson Street carrier hotel. The reason Equinix gave at the time was that some of the data centers might not need its future sustainability, expansion, or operational needs for its corporate or customer standards.
Equinix offers 936 square meters (10,073 square feet) of colocation space from the facility. Its lease at the site is due to end in September 2022. According to New York Internet’s website, it currently offers over 1,950 square meters (21,000 square feet) of data center space from the carrier hotel. Taking over Equinix’s occupied space at the building is a strategic move from NYI.
