Global technology giant Microsoft revealed plans to develop a new data center campus in Newport Wales. In a post on its website, the company wrote, “Microsoft will be applying for planning permission for a data center in Newport, Wales. We are preparing a planning application for the site in the Quinn Imperial Park to deliver a new state-of-the-art data center.”

At the time of writing, the tech giant had not filed for planning permission with Newport City Council and is still yet to share details about the development scope or potential timelines. Reports by the local press suggest that the new campus will be built on a one million square foot (92,900 sqm) factory building which Microsoft was rumored to have purchased early in 2022.

The said building, previously occupied by Quinn Radiators before it went bust in 2019 is located next door to Vantage’s Newport campus, both being factories for Korean firm LG Electronics till it pulled out of Wales till it pulled out of Wales two decades ago.
