Pure DC has launched the first phase of its Seinäjoki, Finland, data center project, with Microsoft reportedly among the customers leasing capacity at the site. The initial phase will deliver 110MW of capacity with an estimated investment of $1.7 billion. Pure DC has been developing plans for the campus for more than a year, originally targeting a 500MW facility across 370 acres. The project has since expanded to 550MW, with a planned investment of over €7.5 billion ($8.55 billion) for the full buildout.

The SJK01 project is expected to create around 3,000 construction jobs over a decade. The AI-ready facility will feature modular 40MW blocks with direct-to-chip liquid cooling designed for high-density workloads.
Seinäjoki Mayor Jaakko Kiiskilä said the partnership with Pure DC will support regional development, creating long-term employment opportunities across a range of skills and industries.

"As well as the construction jobs and permanent roles there will be many other benefits for the area – business rates and property tax will be reinvested to benefit local residents, waste heat from the data center will be repurposed for our district heating network, and our partnership will also see Pure DC investing across a number of education and reskilling initiatives. Our joint belief is that this campus can be a catalyst for the creation of an even larger ecosystem of entrepreneurs, supply chain industries, and employment for residents.”

The British ambassador to Finland, Laura Davies, added: “I am delighted by this major UK investment into Pure DC’s new site in Seinäjoki - the largest yet by a UK company in Finland. It's an example of the growing role of UK companies in financing and delivering digital infrastructure across Europe, which is a key component of building our shared data sovereignty."1_copy.width-358.jpg
