Microsoft has announced the launch of its first Azure cloud region in Doha, Qatar. The company said, “We are launching our newest data center region in Qatar. The new data center region includes Azure Availability Zones, which offer you additional resiliency for your applications by designing the region with unique physical data center locations with independent power, network, and cooling for additional tolerance to data center failures.”

The Qatar region launched with three availability zones. Earlier in 2019, the government of Qatar gave the company permission to develop the cloud region. At the official announcement in December 2019, Microsoft noted that the region would live in 2021. Microsoft also has another region in the Middle East. Its Azure region in Dubai was launched in 2019. In addition, Microsoft is looking to launch a cloud region in Israel.
