Lumina CloudInfra has announced it has broken ground on its new data center in Navi Mumbai.
To be built on 6.3 acres, the company's Airoli site will offer a capacity of over 60 MW across two phases; the first of which is expected to be complete by 2025.
Lumina CloudInfra is owned and managed by Blackstone's Real Estate and Tactical Opportunities funds, and injecting $300 million into the project.
Anil Reddy, Global CEO and Co-founder of Lumina CloudInfra, said: "The groundbreaking of our first data centre is an important milestone for Lumina and India's digital journey."
Reddy added:"The Lumina platform builds on the team's experiences combined with the success of Blackstone's strong track record in data infrastructure and shares the commitment of bringing innovative opportunities to investors and consumers around the world, including India."
The company is also reportedly actively considering a second data center in Mahape, Navi Mumbai. Further, by 2030, Blackstone is pegged to establish data centers in five Indian cities with a total capacity of 600MW.
The data center industry is booming in India, as a result of surging internet usage. Pegged to grow significantly in the next 1-2 years, nearby Mumbai is leading the way, accounting for 52% of the country's total capacity, and recently positioned itself as the third-largest data center market in the Asia-Pacific region.
