LG Uplus, a South Korean telco, is building a new hyperscale data center. The new facility, named Pyeongchon 2 Center, would be located in Anyang City in Gyeonggi Province, south of Seoul. The specific location has not been released.
The building will have 12 stories with a floor area of 435,400 square feet with space for over 100,000 servers.
LG Uplus has already broken ground on the new hyperscale data center, and it is scheduled for completion in Q3 of 2023. Regulatory filings show that LG Uplus is planning to invest over 300 billion won ($267.9 million) in the new facility.
The company is responding to increased demand for data center space. LG Uplus's first facility in Anyang, which was built in 2015, is nearing capacity, and the new facility is required to keep pace with customer demand.
LG Uplus, which is one of the largest mobile providers in the country, currently operates four colocation centers in South Korea.
