Key Point and Rostelecom are teaming up to build a new data center on Sakhalin Island, off the east coast of Russia, north of Japan. In September 2022, Key Point signed an agreement with Sakhalin Oblast Governor Valery Igorevich to construct a data center in the Sakhalin Region, without providing any further details on the location, specifications or timelines. This month, Key Point announced that it has signed a partnership with Rostelecom to develop information and telecommunication infrastructure in the Sakhalin region. Key Point disclosed that the data center would be equipped with 100 racks, 850kW Tier III, and would be operational by the end of 2023. Furthermore, Rostelecom will be a tenant of the new facility.
Evgeny Virtser, Key Point’s representative, stated that the project would be a crucial step in creating a regional network of Key Point data processing centers. Virtser further added that Rostelecom’s decision to establish a full-fledged communication center at Key Point’s data center demonstrates the confidence that one of the largest telecom operators has in the quality of infrastructure provided by Key Point. The Sakhalin branch director of PJSC Rostelecom, Andrey Sun, noted that the digital partnership between the two companies would allow them to create a dependable and secure platform for developing digital projects. The new site's launch is a response to clients in Sakhalin Oblast who have requested placing their information systems in the cloud.
