NTT: JTowers, NTT Docomo finalize tower transfer ownership

NTT Docomo announced on September 26, 2023, that it has agreed with JTowers on a deal to share its current telecommunication tower infrastructure. This agreement enables an ownership transfer of an additional 1,552 Docomo towers to JTower for 17 billion yen ($114 million). This comes after Docomo agreed to sell 6,002 of its towers to the same company last year.

Docomo mentioned that this transfer arrangement will help support its 5G network build-out and enable further streamlining of its operations. The company also said it completed the transfer of approximately 2,400 towers at the end of June 2023, per its previous agreement with JTowers. 

Docomo said, "Through these efforts, both companies aim to realize more efficient capital investments and lower operating expenses for tower tenants; they also plan to promote the early deployment of 5G networks. Both companies will also continue contributing to the achievement of a sustainable society, reducing the environmental impact of their infrastructure through its effective use."
