Plans for a 640-acre data center in Iron County, Utah, have been approved by local authorities. The Iron County Planning Commission voted in favor of the proposal during a meeting on June 4.
The Antelope Data Center campus will include five buildings totaling around 1.35 million sq ft (125,000 sqm) and an on-site natural gas power plant capable of generating up to 1.5GW at full buildout. The project will be located along Antelope Spring Road, about 7.8 miles (12.6 km) west of Iron Spring Road in Cedar City, Utah.
Pronghorn Development LLC is behind the proposal for the project. The data center will use a closed-loop cooling system and is expected to create around 670 direct jobs across roles including IT, power engineering, facility management, security, and administration, according to Iron County. Iron County, in southwestern Utah on the Nevada border, has Cedar City as its largest city. Most of Utah’s data center activity is currently concentrated around Salt Lake City.
